The Century Plant is a joint venture between SandRidge Energy Inc. and Occidental Petroleum Corp. It will extract carbon dioxide from natural gas that SandRidge recovers in the West Texas Overthrust, which Oxy would then use in its enhanced oil recovery. The Century Plant is a $1.2 billion investment.

The plant will go online in two segments. The first segment is expected to be completed in mid-2010, with the second in the first quarter of 2011.

Reportedly, the plant will increase SandRidge’s capability of producing methane from high-CO₂ gas by five times and expand Oxy’s production by a minimum of 50,000 barrels of oil per day within five years.
